Elite Seatpost

$99.95

The Thomson Elite seatpost is the standard by which all other seatposts are judged. Forged clamps, integrally machined head, and an elliptically extruded 7000 series aluminum body have made the Elite and the Setback Elite the industry models for strength and ease of adjustment.

The Thomson Elite seatpost is over 40% stronger on ultimate strength tests than the strongest production seatposts on the market.

The Elite has double the fatigue life of any other production models we tested. The tube and head of the Thomson seatpost are integral-machined from one piece of high strength 7000 series aluminum. The head is not pressed or bonded in. This allows for superior strength and minimum weight.

Certified to: EN 14766 2006 MTB and DIN CERTCO: 2006 MTB

It’s incredibly lightweight—approximately 201 grams (250 length) for road bikes and 228 grams (330 length) for mountain bikes. The natural ellipse bore inside tube creates an optimum strength-to-weight ratio.

We have a long 1.614 inch (41 mm) seat rail grip length. This helps prevent seat rail bending from impact loads. Most other seatposts have grip lengths of at least .500 inches shorter than our grip length.

The Thomson seatpost design incorporates a bending fuse to prevent catastrophic failure. All competitive seatposts we tested failed catastrophically with the seat and clamp components, and sometimes pieces of the tube and head flew off in all directions.

The Thomson seatpost has a clamp, head, and upper tube strong enough to withstand 350 foot-lbs of torque. The tube will start to yield and bend at the seat tube clamp at about 250 foot-lbs of torque. Under severe impact the Thomson seatpost will bend slightly and allow the rider to come to a safe stop or finish the ride.

The Thomson seatpost has all parts captive and can easily be attached to a seat without dis-assembly.

Infinite tilt adjustment minus 5° and plus 29°.

Very low profile clamps means no seat interference as the swivel nuts are down between the seat rails.

The designs and materials have passed extensive life and ultimate strength tests. Our ongoing testing program ensures that every production lot of seatposts meets Thomson standards.

Impact absorbing clamps in the seatpost will spread and flex on impact to protect seat, rails, and rider. The seats survive heavy impact loads without bending the rails.

FAQ

In what colors are Thomson seatposts available?

Black or silver (Certain sizes are available in black only)

I want more tilt. Will longer bolts help?

– Longer bolts will not allow more tilt. Once the top clamp touches the front ear of the post there is no further tilt available. Even at full forward tilt, properly torqued, there is enough bolt engagement with the barrel nut. Do not use non-Thomson bolts on your Thomson seatpost.

Can I use oval and/or oversized saddle rails?

Our standard clamps work best with 7x7mm rails. We have an accessory seatpost clamp kit for oversized rails up to 7x10mm.

Are you going to add other colors in the near future?

No, we are not planning to add new colors.

May I use carbon saddle rails?

Yes, you may.

Can I flip my set back post around to be a “set forward” to use my road bike for triathlon?

Yes you may. You may need to turn the top clamp to face the front of the bike for saddle adjustment.

How much lighter is the Masterpiece than the Thomson Elite?

40 grams, on average.

Should I grease my seatpost before installation?

A very light coat of grease is okay. Do not use anti-seize, as it can lead to slipping. To prevent sticking the post in the frame, remove, clean, and re-install it every 90 days. Do not use grease in a carbon fiber frame.

Is there a weight limit for the Elite seatpost?

Practically speaking, no.

May I bolt a rack or trailer to my Elite seatpost?

Yes, if the clamping mechanism is sized to the outside diameter of the seatpost and has a round, not oval, clamping mechanism. Do not try this with the Masterpiece Seatpost.
